Proximity, osmosis, ambience and time. The sort of knowing that happens from the corner of our eye. I chose Swann's Way because of its pace and its relationship to memory. It felt like the right foil for the urgency these signs usually carry: "we buy gold, check out our..., weather take shelter." The full text of the book is displayed as a text readout on a repurposed LED sign and takes 36 hours to complete, scrolling at a legible but slow pace. This is for the person who walks their dog by it every morning, for the group of teenagers that sneak out at night to the picnic table in the park across the street, as the leaves fall, as the snow covers. Canaries aren’t like parrots however and don’t mimic sounds, it’s more like they riff off of them. In may 2013 I picked (b.) up from a breeder on the outskirts of Chicago. (b.) was still young enough to have not formed a song. The ballroom was initiated to provide an alternative art space, created by and for artists as a forum to establish community and allow for flexible use and experimentation. It serves projects that might not be as accepted by large audiences, that don’t fit as well within models for art production and reception more readily available outside of it. As an “alternative” the ballroom was constructed to physically and metaphorically clear new space for artists within the institution of Elsewhere, which is itself an alternative art space. It’s presence at Elsewhere registers the need that artists have to choose from many kinds of alternatives to traditional museums and galleries in order to thrive. The new theater was prepared by patching and giving the walls of the staircase a fresh coat of paint to draw attention to Martyna Szczesna’s double vaulted ceiling. The stairs were cleaned, sanded and refinished to provide proscenium seating. &nbsp;The console was installed into the stair-landing for a traverse stage with seating potential on both sides of the building’s threshold. I liked the idea of those in attendance realizing that someone among them was not … hmmm sincere might be the word. I wrote a handful of scripts and decided on only using this one. I’m always shocked at how muddled the view of the present can be. When I wrote and implemented this performance it didn’t even cross my mind that it had anything to do with the fact that my own father had died just two years before. At the time it was called Harold arts. you might have already seen it but “gloaming hour”&nbsp; was the project I was working on. while there I met Tricia Van Eck and during walks, through the woods, we had a series of interesting conversations about nature and our (humans) relationship with it. I had recently completed my collaboration with blue eyes on (b.) another project you might have already seen. she described a clutter, a glaring, or a pounce of feral cats that had taken up residence at the venue in&nbsp; a sort of &nbsp; “And she swallowed the spider to catch the fly”. sort of way. the conversations resulted in the project I completed at 6018 north in response to her group show prompt “public/private”. during my time at the space, getting to know the cats I was struck one afternoon when one of the cats had snuck inside after the rain.
